Before you book

Boarding points

Most cross-border coaches leave from a handful of well-known departure points — Golden Mile Tower, Grantral Mall on Beach Road, the Kitchener Complex area near Lavender MRT, Boon Lay and Jurong East in the west, and Katong V and Tampines in the east. A few operators run neighbourhood pick-ups so you can board closer to home. See the full list of boarding points.

Immigration and the checkpoints

Every service crosses at either the Woodlands Causeway or the Tuas Second Link. You get off the coach with your luggage at both the Singapore and Malaysian checkpoints, clear immigration on foot, then reboard. Allow well over an hour at peak times. Read the checkpoint guide.

Choosing a seat

Coach seating is quoted as 2+2, 2+1 or 1+1 — the number of seats either side of the aisle. For an overnight run to Penang, Ipoh or Hatyai, a 2+1 layout is worth the extra fare. Compare coach types.

Common questions

What is the cheapest bus from Singapore to Malaysia?

Fares start from S$2.00 for the shortest cross-border runs to Johor Bahru. Longer routes to Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and the north cost more, and overnight premium coaches more again.

Where do buses to Malaysia leave from in Singapore?

The main departure points are Golden Mile Tower, Grantral Mall on Beach Road, the Lavender / Kitchener Complex area, Boon Lay, Jurong East, Queen Street, Katong V and Tampines. See all boarding points.

Do I need a passport for the bus to Malaysia?

Yes. You need a passport valid for at least six months, and you clear immigration in person at both the Singapore and Malaysian checkpoints. Keep your ticket and boarding pass to hand for reboarding.

How far in advance should I book?

A few days ahead is usually enough on the busy Kuala Lumpur and Malacca corridors. For public holidays, school breaks and Friday or Sunday evening departures, book two to three weeks ahead — those services sell out.
